BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson has predicted that Leeds United will beat Sheffield United 3-0 in the Premier League clash on Saturday.
That would see Leeds with a total of 42 points with eight games still left to play.
Writing in his regular column on the BBC Lawrenson said, “Sheffield United were extremely competitive in their last game, against Chelsea in the FA Cup sixth-round, but they still lost.
“That has been the story of the Blades’ season, really, and the only thing still in doubt is when their relegation will be confirmed.
“Leeds edged it 1-0 with an 86th-minute winner when these two sides met at Bramall Lane at the start of the season. I’m expecting them to find things a bit easier this time.”
Lawro has the faith
The article also showed where Leeds would be in the Premier League if all Lawro’s predictions had come off this season – and we’d be sitting in nosebleed territory in sixth.
That would see us above West Ham, Leicester and Arsenal, which shows the faith that Lawrenson has had in us this season.
If a few close results and unlucky games had turned out differently, we could be challenging for Europe this season and that’s an incredible thing to be writing.
However, we don’t think a return to Europe next season would have done us any good.
If we’re going to add Thursday night games to our schedule and still play at Bielsa’s helter-skelter speed, then we need a much bigger squad.
A solid mid-table finish is perfect for Leeds and we think we’ll take a step closer to that with three points at Elland Road on Saturday.
