Mark Lawrenson predicts Leeds United v Watford scoreline

Mark Lawrenson predicts Leeds United to claim the first win of their 2021/22 Premier League campaign in Saturday’s clash with Watford.

Leeds are winless in six league encounters so far this season, but writing his weekly predictions on the BBC Sport website, Lawrenson backs Marcelo Bielsa’s side to end their rotten run against the Hornets at Elland Road.

“Watford have shown they can be awkward opponents but Leeds are too easy to beat at the moment – if it’s not one part of their team that’s not functioning, it’s another,” he said.

“Marcelo Bielsa’s side scored 12 goals in their first six Premier League games last season as a newly-promoted club – this time, they have managed only half as many.

“There have been flashes of their old selves but, over 90 minutes, we are still waiting for them to put in the kind of performance that we got used to. Maybe Saturday will be the day that changes?”

Lawrenson predicts a 2-0 win for the Whites.

Prepared for a sting

The Hornets have made a solid, if unspectacular, start to life back in the Premier League this season.

They’ve won two games, drawing another, with Ismaila Sarr establishing himself as one of the most fearsome forwards in the division after scoring four goals, with only Michail Antonio, Mohamed Salah and Jamie Vardy ahead of him in the Golden Boot charts.

Leeds, meanwhile, are scrabbling around for their first league victory this season, and they will have to do without the services of Patrick Bamford once again this weekend.

With the international break set to kick in after this weekend, the Whites will be desperate to claim their first three points on Saturday.

In other Leeds United news, a journalist has suggested the Whites may look to offload this player in January if Marcelo Bielsa reduces his minutes.
