Mark Lawrenson predicts Leeds United v Burnley scoreline

Mark Lawrenson predicts Leeds United to pick up their first three points of the season on Sunday afternoon when they play Burnley at Turf Moor.

Marcelo Bielsa’s men will arrive in Lancashire without a Premier League win so far this season after a 5-1 hammering at Manchester United was followed by a frantic 2-2 draw against Everton at Elland Road last week.

However, writing in his weekly predictions on the BBC Sport website, ex-Liverpool defender Lawrenson backs Leeds to win 2-0 against Sean Dyche’s side.

He said: “I have never worried about Burnley getting relegated under Sean Dyche, even when they have lost a few games because he will turn it around, but I am just not quite sure about this season. Something does not seem right at the club, although it is not the manager.

“It will be too much for them against Leeds because whoever Marcelo Bielsa’s side play, they don’t change. They will win more games than they lose and the manager does not let the players get away with anything. It is 90 minutes of sheer sweat, exertion and pressure.”

Perfect opportunity

Burnley look like a team low on confidence and struggling for form.

Their first two Premier League games this season saw them lose to Brighton (2-1) and Liverpool (2-0) as they once again struggled to create many clear-cut chances.

They did, however, beat Newcastle United in the League Cup on Wednesday, so there may be an injection of confidence from that success.

But Leeds did the double over Burnley last season, winning by an aggregate of five to zero.

A 1-0 Elland Road win was followed by a 4-0 thrashing of the Clarets at Turf Moor in May, and Bielsa will be hoping for more of the same on Sunday.

This looks like the ideal opportunity to pick up their first league win of the season, but Dyche and his battle-hardened players can never be ruled out of springing a surpise.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites want to sign this international central midfielder.
