Mark Lawrenson predicts Leeds United scoreline v Liverpool as Jesse Marsch pressure ramps up

Mark Lawrenson predicts Leeds United to suffer yet another defeat when they take on Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.

Jesse Marsch is under immense pressure at Leeds after his side dropped into the Premier League’s relegation zone with a home defeat to Fulham last time out.

And while the American could do with a shock win on Merseyside to alleviate some of that pressure, Lawrenson doesn’t see it happening and has backed his former club Liverpool to win 2-0.

“The problem with Leeds is that they are competitive, they’re just lacking a bit of guile,” Lawrenson told Paddy Power.

“Patrick Bamford is only going to get match fit by playing games and he’s the best finisher they’ve got.

“Liverpool had a great result in the Champions League but they are down to the bare bones a little bit.

“I think they’ll bounce back from that Nottingham Forest game, though.”

Tough game

After losing back-to-back games against Crystal Palace, Arsenal, Leicester and Fulham, one of the last places you want to go in the Premier League these days is Anfield.

While we can understand losing to teams like Arsenal, it’s the losses against Palace, Leicester and Fulham that are hurting Leeds, who haven’t won since 21 August when they shocked Chelsea.

Can they shock Liverpool in a similar fashion?

It’ll be quite something to go to Merseyside and get a result but Jurgen Klopp’s side has been in dreadful form in the Premier League this season.

After Sadio Mane left in the summer, a change of tact was needed at Anfield and that has led to some unsurprisingly poor results.

While we didn’t see them losing to Forest last weekend, it’s not the greatest of shocks to see Liverpool hitting a patch of regression.

Still, it doesn’t make it much easier for this Leeds side, who have been absolutely rotten at both ends of the pitch in recent weeks.

Leeds are squandering chances galore – especially goal-shy Bamford – while the defence is always guilty of a howler or two in every game.

We haven’t got much hope for this game.

In other Leeds United news, Marsch has been told to enter quiet talks with the PGMOL after Jeff Stelling made an accusation.
