Marcelo Bielsa delivers verdict on Jamie Vardy offside call

Marcelo Bielsa believes that the offside call for Jamie Vardy in the Leeds United v Leicester City game on Sunday was tough to take.

The Whites dominated proceedings but ended up sharing the spoils with the Foxes as it ended 1-1 at full-time.

In the first half, it seemed that Leicester striker Vardy had stolen a march on Diego Llorente who then brought him down, but it ended up being a slight offside, which led to some disagreement among the two camps.

Discussing the incident during his post-match press conference, Vardy said, via LeedsLive, “I saw the clip everyone saw with the line. I asked because the ball had already left Vardy’s head and the distance between was the difference with Lookman being offside.

“I was shown the wrong picture. I saw an image where Vardy makes contact and Lookman is onside. Tough to take.”

Right call

Initially, Vardy was flagged offside and referee Darren England listened to his assistant and pulled the play back.

So, whatever happened after the ball went to Vardy does not count as the game is dead by the time.

The replays suggested that the ball may have come off Pascal Struijk, but there wasn’t enough in it to overturn the decision.

This was the right call made by the officials, and we can sympathise with Vardy.

However, from a Leeds point of view, it was one of their best games for a while and the fans will undoubtedly be pleased with how they performed on the day.

Hopefully, this is the start of some good form as we’re starting to see most of the players clicking and getting out of second gear.
