'Shocking', 'Garbage' – These Leeds fans fume at one player after first-half display v Cardiff
Leeds United finally got their bid for promotion back on the road as their Championship campaign restarted with a tricky trip to Cardiff on Sunday.
And Cardiff showed exactly why Leeds fans have been nervy, taking a 1-0 lead after 35 minutes following a terrible mistake from Kalvin Phillips. It was the first goal Leeds had conceded in six games.
Pablo Hernandez was the only absentee from the starting XI today after picking up a knock – he should be back in training on Wednesday and in contention for the game against Fulham on Saturday.
It was strange watching Leeds without fans, although Sky Sports did an admirable job of piping in realistic fan noises.
That wasn’t in the ground, with players playing to an empty stadium and just the sounds of staff and fellow players shouting echoing around the stadium.
It didn’t affect the intensity though, with the game, starting at a gallop.
This was nervy stuff from Leeds though. They found it really hard to put any sort of stamp on the play in the first 20 minutes.
Then, just as they seemed to be taking charge, a terrible pass from Phillips presented Junior Hoilett with a chance that he took. Illan Meslier in goal should have done better but this was down to Phillips.
Leeds need a much better second 45.
Meanwhile, here are the best reactions to Phillips’ uncharacteristic mistake…

Awful pass… sloppy but it’s only 1-0 plenty of time to strike back #lufc

That's an absolute shocking mistake by Phillips. Way too complacent. The only issue Leeds face are Leeds themselves. #lufc
