Major blow for Leeds as Bielsa delivers Kalvin Phillips update – likely out for season
Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips has been ruled out of the massive Championship game against Barnsley on Thursday, and will likely not feature again this season.
The midfielder was struggling in the second half of the game against Swansea and had heavy strapping on his left knee.
The game against Barnsley could have massive significance. If Brentford drop any points then a win for Leeds would be enough to guarantee promotion. A draw will be enough if Brentford lose.
Marcelo Bielsa delivered the fitness update in his pre-match press conference on Tuesday lunchtime and the news was relayed by BBC journalist Adam Pope and YEP journalist Graham Smyth.
Pope went on to say the issue would take 4-5 weeks to resolve.

The game kicks off at 5pm on Thursday.
Leeds aren’t over the line yet.
They’re close but Leeds fans know what can happen in football. Leeds only took one point from their last four games in the 19/20 season and won’t be counting any chickens until the maths confirm things.
Losing Phillips is a real blow and it will involve major changes to the Leeds side going forward.
Ben White is the player that Bielsa will likely turn to in defensive midfield, and Gaetano Berardi is likely to slot in at centre-back.
There are other options – moving Luke Ayling into the centre, putting Barry Douglas at left-back and Stuart Dallas at right-back, but Berardi is the easy option.
It’s not only a blow for Leeds but also for Phillips who will now miss out on playing in the game when Leeds secure promotion.
It’s really bad news after a few days of elation among Leeds fans following the late Pablo Hernandez winner.
