Luton Town fans rile Leeds United as Kenilworth Road chant shared – ‘Deary me’

Leeds United supporters are used to being on the end of various chants from opposition fans, with Luton Town the latest to get in on the act.

Isaiah Jones put Luton ahead in Saturday’s (5 April) Championship clash at Kenilworth Road to stun the travelling hoards.

Leeds thankfully did not take too long to hit back through Daniel James, with the scoreline remaining 1-1 come half-time.

Leeds falling behind against Luton coincided with Burnley levelling at 1-1 away at Coventry City, meaning they temporarily went second in an almighty battle at the top.

Luton fans aim dig at Leeds supporters

The Sun journalist Justin Allen pointed out on his personal X account (5 April) that Luton fans took great delight in Leeds fans’ pain at Kenilworth Road.

“Oh Deary me. Luton winning and fans singing: Leeds are falling apart again. Burnley now second,” Allen posted.

Leeds fans need to reminding what tune the chant is sung to, given it is usually around this time every season it gets rolled out.

United supporters themselves use the song in an ironic manner, although usually when things are going well.

It really is squeaky bum time now and any sort of slip-up could prove fatal in terms of the top-two prospects.

Leeds fans will just be delighted James cancelled out Jones’ goal before the nerves could settle in too much.

Leeds must learn from last season’s mistakes

Daniel Farke‘s men slipped out of the top two last season and then had to settle for a place in the play-offs, and we all know how that one panned out.

Anything less than the top two this season would simply not be acceptable, particularly having looked so comfortable not long ago.

The playoffs provide a safety net, of course, but it should not come to that. Coming out on top in the second half against Luton – who are in serious relegation trouble – is therefore imperative.

Should Leeds manage that, they will also then need a helping hand from Coventry in that other big showdown elsewhere today.
