Luke Ayling could be available for Leeds United clash v Tottenham - Phil Hay

Phil Hay has suggested Luke Ayling may be available for Leeds United when they play away at Tottenham on Sunday.

While The Athletic journalist has reported that Patrick Bamford is unlikely to be involved, he has suggested on Twitter that Ayling, 30, could play for the first time since mid-September.

Writing on The Athletic website, Hay said: “Luke Ayling, however, is in the final throes of his recovery from knee surgery and neither Junior Firpo nor Jamie Shackleton, both of whom have missed recent games with minor injuries, were expected to be out for long.”

Huge potential triple boost

If Bielsa has Ayling, Firpo and Shackleton all available to play against Tottenham on Sunday then that is massive news.

It mean that Stuart Dallas and Pascal Struijk can be played in their stronger positions and also mean that Marcelo Biesla can play actual full-backs in the two full-back positions.

While Shackleton is only ever going to be a starter if there’s an injury or suspension among the starting line-up, having him on the bench to add some depth is very much needed.

There’s been a lot of talk about how thing Bielsa’s options are this season due to the injuries Leeds have suffered.

There have been a lot but it’s also something that Bielsa has had to deal with at Elland Road before and something that he has overcome.

If Ayling and Firpo are both back, that’ll be a massive boost while Dallas could be moved into the midfield.

Adam Forshaw seems undroppable so maybe we’ll see Jack Harrison left out of the starting line-up at Tottenham this weekend.

In other Leeds United news, an agent has shared what happened with Erling Haaland visited Thorp Arch during a training session.
