Live from Thorp Arch: Clarke sharp as Leeds make it four-in-a-row with 1-0 win v Sheffield Weds

Leeds United under-23s made it four wins in-a-row on Monday afternoon at Thorp Arch. A Mateusz Bogusz strike was enough for all three points in a 1-0 victory.

On a bitter afternoon, the fans were treated to a number of senior players on both sides. Barry Douglas and Eddie Nketiah both completed 45 minutes for the Whites, with Sam Winnall and Joey Pelupessy playing for the away side.

It was a quiet start to the clash, and the first opening went to the Owls. Winnall managed to get in behind Douglas but Illan Meslier was in great form to keep him out with a strong right arm.

Ryan Edmondson led the line ahead of Nketiah once again, and Leeds’ best chance fell to him. A deep cross from Jordan Stevens found the forward, who crashed a powerful header onto the crossbar.

Carlos Corberan’s side went into the break with the scores level at 0-0, and that led to him making yet another half-time triple substitution.

Nketiah was joined by Jack Clarke and Oliver Casey – changes that ultimately made the difference.

It wasn’t an afternoon full of chances, but Leeds took theirs when it popped up. Alfie McCalmont found space down the right after good work from Clarke, and Bogusz swept home a low effort underneath the Wednesday keeper to seal the points.

After conceding early after scoring recently against Sheffield United, Leeds played it safe. It was a slow burner towards the end, filled with Meslier wasting as much time as possible.

Jack Clarke was impressive. Eddie Nektiah didn’t put on a good show.

This win keeps the under 23s in touch with the top three, as well as having games in hand over Burnley and Birmingham.
