Leeds United under-23s made it three wins on the bounce when they welcomed Sheffield United to Thorp Arch on Friday afternoon, taking all three points in a 2-1 victory.

Carlos Corberan once again had a number of first-team names to call upon, with Eddie Nketiah returning from injury to take a spot on the bench.

Pascal Struijk was withdrawn from the starting line-up before kick-off and was replaced by Liam McCarron.

That led to Bryce Hosannah moving into the heart of defence alongside Oliver Casey, with McCarron filling in at left-wing back.

Not much happened in the opening exchanges, with the best chance falling to Leeds - who were looking dangerous when breaking from deep.

Robbie Gotts broke into the box from midfield and, with just the keeper to beat, lobbed the ball agonisingly over the crossbar.

Sheffield United had their moments and had a golden chance to open the scoring before the break. After Illan Meslier was adjudged to have taken down Reece York, the Frenchman made up for that by keeping out the spot-kick low down to his right to send the teams into the break level.

The start of the second half brought along a crazy five-minute spell. Leeds took the lead after Nketiah put pressure on the Blades defence, which led to a mistake that Ryan Edmondson took advantage of to score his third goal in as many games.

It was an immediate response by the away side though, who equalised after a low ball into the box was converted by Jake Kelly.

A sharp turn from Nketiah on the edge of the box forced the Sheffield United defence into a foul, a free-kick which Mateusz Bogusz claimed instantly. The young Pole stepped up and fired a great strike over the wall and into the top corner to give the young Whites the lead once again.

Corberan's men managed to hold on for all three points, and a third win on the bounce puts that nightmare defeat against Derby to the back of everyone's minds.
