Lewis Jones expects goals in Leeds United clash v Burnley
Sky Sports pundit Lewis Jones has predicted a 2-2 draw between Leeds United and Burnley in the Premier League this weekend.
Leeds United will be looking to secure a top-half finish and steal a march on 11th placed Aston Villa.
A clash against a Burnley side that has nothing to play for seems a good one on paper, but the Clarets have put in impressive performances of late.
Known to be a boring and defensive side, recently they have been anything but, finding the back of the net in every game since the end of February.
The pick of their games was the 4-0 away win against Wolves which virtually assured them of safety.
Jones expects a free-flowing Burnley side to show up and score goals against Leeds who have looked pretty compact defensively.
In his Sky Sports column, he wrote, “Should be a fun watch, this game. Burnley are pressing much higher lately in attack and it’s reaping the rewards with Chris Wood and Matej Vydra seeing much more service.
“In their last seven games, only Leicester and Chelsea have created a higher expected goals figure per game than Burnley and their return of 13 actual goals from that run of fixtures is very healthy too.”
Three points in the offing
This is a welcome fixture at this stage of the campaign. Burnley aren’t the best of sides on paper and aren’t battling relegation, so they won’t be as up for it.
We’ve got to capitalise on their complacency and start the game strongly like we did against Tottenham. One of the main reasons we lost to Brighton was that we didn’t seize the initiative from the off and played catch-up for most of the game.
Burnley have been pressing higher, which only makes it that much easier to create chances, giving way to an open and attacking game.
Sean Dyche’s sides are usually rigid and robust, so it will be interesting to play a team that wants to create chances and control proceedings.
Having Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips back for this game is a blessing while Liam Cooper should also return from his suspension and slot straight into our starting eleven, provided he passes a fitness test.
If we win, we go four clear of Villa for at least a day. Every game is almost like a cup final if we are to secure 10th place.
