Lewis Bate spotted with Leeds United U23s squad tonight at Leicester
Lewis Bate has been spotted with the Leeds United Under-23s squad tonight (Friday) as they get ready to play Leicester in Premier League 2.
There has been some clamour among fans for Bate, 18, to get a call-up to Marcelo Bielsa’s first-team squad amid a good run of form for the Under-23s and selection issues in the senior side.
However, LeedsLive journalist Joe Donnohue has spotted Bate at the King Power Stadium tonight, which suggests Bate might not be involved when Leeds play Watford in the Premier League on Saturday.
Spot on bench still possible
We’re all dying to see Bate in action in Leeds’ first-team because the summer signing, who arrived from Chelsea, is a really talented young player.
The central midfielder has been in good form for the Under-23s so far this season and played a big role in Mark Jackson’s side beating Oldham 3-2 in the EFL Trophy this week.
Bielsa even spoke about Bate in his pre-match press conference this week with BBC Radio Leeds’ Adam Pope quoting the Whites boss as saying: “He performs better every time in the games he’s a part of.
“He’s a player who is constantly managing the ball and he doesn’t lose it very often.
“He has a good sense of a pass. He can thread it through the eye of a needle.”
Some Leeds fans understandably want to see Bate in action against Watford this weekend but the fact he’s been spotted at Leicester this evening suggests Bielsa isn’t planning to play the teenage talent.

We’d like to see Bate too. But starting a Premier League match after a six-game winless start to the season? Probably not.
His time will come, as it did with Crysencio Summerville, Joe Gelhardt and Charlie Cresswell.
Let’s remain patient and trust Bielsa.
