Leeds United v Swansea moment blasted live on talkSPORT — ‘Woeful’

Leeds United dropped two points in their draw against Swansea at Elland Road, with talkSPORT commentator Ian Stringer not pleased.

Alan Sheehan’s team took a point from Elland Road after what was a mesmerising final few minutes for the neutrals.

Brenden Aaronson’s early goal was cancelled out by Harry Darling after Illan Meslier’s error, but Willy Gnonto thought he had sealed the victory for the Whites late on.

Swansea had other ideas, though, with Zan Vipotnik finding the back of the net just seconds before full-time.

Swansea defending for Leeds United opener woeful

Swansea’s defending for the West Yorkshire outfit’s opening goal was woeful, Stringer says.

The talkSPORT commentator blasted the Swans’s defender for not dealing with the threat before Aaronson found the back of the net.

Stringer was baffled to see the hosts have three opportunities to put the ball into the box before finally finding the back of the net.

Speaking on talkSPORT (29 March, 15:02), the commentator said: “I don’t think [Swansea] have got a gameplan. The ball’s come down the right-hand side. You expect your full-back to tuck in and your centre-halves to stand up. [Leeds] got three goes at putting it into the box. A corner from within the six-yard box. It was woeful defending.”

Meslier lets Elland Road down with errors v Swansea

Sheffield United are not top of the Championship as the Peacocks have dropped two important points at home.

While questions will be asked of some of the players, most fingers will point towards Meslier, who had a game to forget.

The French shot-stopper gifted Swansea the two goals, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see the West Yorkshire outfit drop him from the coming fixtures.

Leeds arguably need an upgrade on Meslier, and it will be interesting to see whether they sanction his sale next summer.

Karl Darlow could potentially be given the opportunity to ensure the Whites win automatic promotion in the final seven games of the season.

The West Yorkshire outfit are level on points with third-place Burnley after their draw against Swansea and wouldn’t want to go into the play-offs.

In the previous campaign, the Peacocks lost to Southampton in the final to win Premier League promotion, and they can’t afford to make the same mistake.

Supporters were already questioning whether Meslier was good enough, and there will only be more noise around him now.
