Leeds United v Hull City player ratings: Patrick Bamford terrible, Sam Byram shines
Leeds United secured a 3-1 victory over Hull City at Elland Road in the EFL Championship on Monday, 1 April.
The Whites took an early lead through Sam Byram but were pegged back 15 minutes later with Fabio Carvalho equalising for the visitors.
Crysencio Summerville then scored a late goal after winning a penalty to send the home fans into ecstasy before Dan James added a third.
Here are our player ratings from the game:
Illan Meslier – 4
The Frenchman appeared to be too casual on the ball and while he did not commit any glaring errors, it still added to the anxiety of the home fans. He was pretty loose with his long passes too and his distribution might cost him if he does not cut this out.
Sam Byram – 8
Did exceptionally with the goal scored, not just because he put the ball into the back of the net, but because he was the one to start the attack for his side. He won the ball at the half line, played it to a teammate, kept running and finally applied the finishing touches.
Rodon excellent again in defence for Leeds United
Joe Rodon – 7
Put in the effort one would want for a Leeds player and often threw his body on the line for his team. His pass accuracy, per Sofascore, was north of 85 per cent and that’s something Farke would’ve been delighted with as Hull were pressing pretty aggressively.

Ethan Ampadu – 7
Captained the side and did a great job partnering Rodon. Won all of his ground duels and his only aerial duel so it was a solid defensive performance from him. Rarely got caught out of position and had it not been for him or Rodon, Leeds would’ve struggled to secure the victory.
Junior Firpo – 6
Grew into the game phenomenally after a poor first half and put in a shift on the defensive side of things. he won four tackles, two interceptions and made two clearances. Farke’s half-time team talk will surely have had some impact on the left-back.
Archie Gray – 5
Lost 50 per cent of his duels in the air and ground and it’s not the kind of performance one would’ve wanted from Gray. Leeds struggled to control the tempo and it was down to the fact that the midfield wasn’t as sharp with them missing Ilia Gruev.
Glen Kamara – 5
With a passing accuracy of 88 per cent, he was pretty tidy in possession. However, there were a couple of turnovers that saw Leeds quickly being hit on the counter and Kamara must be more careful with some of the decisions he makes. It’s fine taking risks but these kinds of errors must be taken out.
Dan James – 6
Had a relatively quiet game for his standards, but when the time came, stepped up and scored from slightly ahead of the halfway line, albeit into an open goal. Made a few mistakes in the game, but at the end of the day, the win matters and the Welshman helped his side secure it.
Georginio Rutter – 7
Started in the number 10 position and did exceptionally well to get players around him into the game. His movement made things tough for the Hull City players to deal with and despite not scoring, had an important role to play in Leeds securing three points.
Crysencio Summerville – 7
Done fantastically well to win the penalty and there was no diving there and was a legitimate foul inside the penalty area. There were nerves undoubtedly, but he held them well to calmly slot the ball into the back of the net. He pulled rank on Joel Piroe to take the penalty and calmly scored. It was deserved as he kept trying to make things happen and finally got his reward.
Bamford struggles in front of goal for Leeds United
Patrick Bamford – 2
The first 45 minutes were one of his worst halves of the season. Bamford had two glorious opportunities to score and put some daylight between his side and the opponents and fluffed his lines on both occasions. Was rightly taken off in the second period and it will be a big surprise if he’s not dropped from the playing eleven for the next one.

Subs
Mateo Joseph – 4
