Leeds United v Bristol City: BBC pundit rages at ‘unforgivable’ moment at Elland Road
Leeds United picked up a huge win against Bristol City on Monday, but it wasn’t without frustration.
The Whites took the lead early on 28 April as Ao Tanaka headed home at the back post after a pinpoint cross from Manor Solomon.
This intensity continued throughout the clash against the Robins as the likes of Joel Piroe and Brenden Aaronson had their chances at Elland Road.
Eventually, this pressure paid off as Wilfried Gnonto netted and Largie Ramazani bagged a brace to secure a 4-0 home win for the final time this campaign.
With that being said, there was still an element of annoyance in LS11 as the home side took the lead against Liam Manning’s side.

Gary Owers rages at Bristol City in defeat v Leeds United
There was a general lack of intensity from the travelling outfit on the night as they looked to maintain a playoff spot until the end of the campaign.
Nahki Wells had a chance to get a shot off in the first half but failed to test Karl Darlow, summing up his side’s efforts in the opening 45 minutes.
What will frustrate the Ashton Gate faithful is the lack of defensive nous as Daniel Farke’s side took the lead and continued to create chances.
Tanaka scored with a header at the back post before hitting the side netting just minutes later in almost identical fashion.
The Japan international was left completely unmarked as the Whites took advantage of City’s zonal marking system that left former Robins midfielder Owers raging.
Speaking on BBC Radio Bristol (28 April, 08:38pm), he said: “It’s unforgivable – Tanaka’s standing unmarked at the post. If you mark zonally, that’s where your weakness is. He should score.
“These are little things you’ve got to look at and analyse. You’ve got to tighten it up because teams will be seeing these weaknesses.”
Farke shows tactical side v Bristol City
Shocking reports of the German potentially facing the sack have emerged in West Yorkshire since promotion was secured in LS11.
This certainly came as a surprise and has been met with widespread opposition from supporters who believe the German deserves his chance in the Premier League.
There seems to be an element of Paraag Marathe that doesn’t believe Farke can do it in the top tier, based on his spell with Norwich City.
Daniel Farke | Leeds United | Norwich City |
Games | 102 | 208 |
Wins | 59 (58%) | 88 (42%) |
Draws | 24 | 47 |
Losses | 19 | 73 |
With that being said, the former Canaries boss proved against Bristol City that he knows how to get the better of opposition sides in different ways.
If this is to reflect well on him in the Premier League, there is no reason to welcome someone like Jose Mourinho to Elland Road at the end of the season.
