Leeds United v Arsenal player ratings: Ayling, Roberts disappoint

Leeds United suffered an embarrassing 4-1 defeat against Arsenal in the Premier League on Saturday.

The Gunners scored three of their goals in the first half and there were fears of a repeat of the Manchester City defeat.

However, the Whites came out stronger in the second half, but failed to even get a sniff of a comeback on the evening, despite Raphinha’s late goal.

Here’s how MOT Leeds News rated the players at Elland Road:

Illan Meslier 7

The only Leeds player who performed at the best of his abilities. The Frenchman was exceptional in goal and made a total of eight saves. Things would’ve been a lot worse if he wasn’t at his best.

Cody Drameh 4

Could be blamed for the second goal, but apart from that, he did not make any glaring errors. He’ll certainly have better games.

Robin Koch 2

A return to the lineup was not coupled with a return to a fine performance. The German was tame from minute one and looked shaky throughout the game.

Luke Ayling 2

It’s not easy playing out of position, but given how well he’s fared there, this was not acceptable. He lost possession on 11 occasions and was erratic in terms of long passing. Bad day at the office.

Leeds United

Stuart Dallas 3

Looked shaky and never seemed confident with the ball at his feet. Defensively, he was ordinary and Arsenal took full advantage of him having a bad game.

Mateusz Klich 5

One of the better performers on the day for Leeds, which says a lot, given he only got a 5/10 rating. However, the Pole kept getting forward and tried to make things happen.

Adam Forshaw 5

Held the midfield really well and controlled the tempo of the game exceptionally. He will have better games that’s for sure, but he’s been doing well in the absence of certain first-team players.

Raphinha 5

His rating would have been lower had he not bagged the penalty. Apart from his goal, he did an awful little to have an impact on the game. He managed to find himself in good goal-scoring positions but did not show any composure in front of goal.

Tyler Roberts 2

Having put in good performances of late, Roberts was back to his old ways. He struggled to make an impact in the final third and seemed like a passenger without possession. Gave the ball away for Arsenal’s fourth as well.

Jack Harrison 3

Played just 30 minutes and made only four touches, so it’s harsh to rate him any lower. He managed to complete a meagre one pass from his attempted two and also lost his aerial duel in the early stages of the game.

Joe Gelhardt 5

Despite not being threatening in front of goal, he tried his best to get involved and also won his side a penalty late on. Did enough on the day to retain his spot in the eleven.
