Leeds United: ‘Unbelievable’ Mateo Joseph incident v Stoke City stuns Sky Sports pundit
Lee Hendrie couldn’t believe what he saw during the second half at Elland Road as Stoke City’s Ben Wilmot managed to deny Leeds United ace Mateo Joseph.
Daniel Farke’s side bounced back from their disappointing 1-1 draw at Huddersfield Town (2 March) and claimed a big three points with a 1-0 victory over Stoke City at Elland Road on Tuesday night (5 March).
It could have been more when Joseph found himself one-on-one with Daniel Iversen in the second half.
The 20-year-old rounded the keeper and looked certain to double the Whites’ lead if not for Wilmot’s fantastic recovery block.
Speaking live on Sky Sports News (9:20 pm, 5 March), Hendrie couldn’t believe what he had seen, saying, “Unbelievable, it is a long ball across the top, Joseph with his first touch goes around the keeper and he hits it, I don’t know how on earth Wilmot gets back to clear it off the line.
“Joseph does everything right, he goes around the goalie and it is a super block in the end that keeps Stoke in the game.
“That just shows what Leeds have going forward.”
Leeds United and Daniel Farke march on despite Mateo Joseph miss
Luckily for Joseph and Leeds, the forward’s miss didn’t mean much in the grand scheme of things.
Despite not doubling their lead, the Whites held on against Stoke City and maintained their push for an instant return to the Premier League.
In all fairness to Joseph, who has been in impressive form as of late, it is hard to put much blame on him for the miss, with Wilmot defying the odds to get back and make the block.

Overall it was the perfect response from Farke’s men to a difficult setback at the weekend, with the West Yorkshire outfit now just five points behind league leaders Leicester City.
