Bamford played through Fulham win with an injury
Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford admitted that he was “struggling” with injury during the game against Fulham tonight and that he didn’t know har far through the game he’d get.
Bamford helped his side to the points, injury or no injury, with a goal and an assist in the 2-1 win.
Talking after the game, he was asked by the Sky Sports journalist how he was as he saw him “hobbling” over. [Sky Sports, 10pm]
“I think the lads deserve a lot of the credit as they had to do a lot of my running for me tonight, I was struggling from the get-go,” Bamford said.
“They probably had to put more in than they were used to… It was just a matter of time as to how long I could last.
“Fortunately I got to 76 minutes before my legs packed in.”
Leeds hero
Marcelo Bielsa said that Patrick Bamford was in pain but that he would probably be fit enough to play for Leeds tonight.
Putting your body on the line – that’s the Leeds way and Bamford is a hero, not just for playing, but for inspiring his side to a 2-1 win.
That’s the three points that probably guarantees our Premier League status as well as breaking the long-running London curse.
Bamford not only had to put up with the physical pain of his injury this week, but also the mental pain of getting so close to his England call-up.
He was said to be in with a shout but talking after the game he said that if someone had said to him at the start of the season that he would be in with a shout of the England squad, he would have said they were bonkers.
Bamford has his feet on the ground and is a humble, brilliant player.
Southgate will love that interview and if he can carry on scoring and setting up goals, he’s still got an outside chance of getting to the Euros this summer.
The only downer tonight was conceding yet another goal from a corner.
That’s something that has to be sorted out for next season.
