Leeds United: Sky Sports pundit fumes over ‘naughty’ incident with Crysencio Summerville v Huddersfield
Andy Hinchliffe has slammed Jonathan Hogg for a “naughty” challenge on Crysencio Summerville during the first half of Leeds United versus Huddersfield Town on Saturday 2 March.
The Terriers started the clash the brightest, forcing Ilan Meslier into a couple of fine saves before the Whites started to grow into the game.
As Leeds looked to launch a counterattack, Summerville was scythed down in a cynical challenge by Hogg, subsequently forcing his Huddersfield teammate Yuta Nakayama off through injury.
Speaking live via Sky Sports on Saturday (2 March, 12:50pm), Hinchcliffe said: “Summerville switches from left to right and Hogg just takes him out, sending him flying into Nakiyama. It’s a naughty challenge from Hogg, who understandably gets a yellow card.”
Leeds United endure a slow start against Huddersfield Town
Hogg is one of the most carded players in the Championship this season, picking up his ninth caution of the campaign with his challenge on Summerville before receiving a red card before the half-time whistle.
At a stretch, some might say he should already be off the pitch after another desperate foul in the middle of the park, being penalised for a challenge on Glen Kamara but was finally sent for an early shower later in the half.
It was an unusually slow start for Daniel Farke’s side at the John Smith’s Stadium, who could have conceded one or two goals in the opening 45 minutes if not for the Whites shot-stopper.
Leeds will be calling for far more protection from the referee in the second half, with David Kasumu and Matthew Pearson joining Hogg in the referee’s notebook.

And while Farke will also be hoping for his players’ safety on the pitch, he will also be hoping that the attacking talents of Summerville, Wilfried Gnonto, Georginio Rutter and Patrick Bamford can slot home to open the scoring and claim all three points on the road.
It is vital that the Whites claim victory, with the ability to close the gap on Leicester City at the top of the Championship table.
