Leeds United: ‘Ridiculous’ Glen Kamara and Crysencio Summerville shock at Plymouth Argyle

Don Goodman was blown away by Leeds United pair Crysencio Summerville and Glen Kamara as they launched a lightning-fast first-half counterattack at Plymouth Argyle.

The Sky Sports pundit reacted live on the broadcaster’s match commentary (17 February) as the Whites pair broke away after the half-hour, combining to advance up the pitch at speed within seconds from a defensive corner.

A “massive” Mikel Miller challenge was all that kept the duo at bay, with Goodman branding it “ridiculous” how Leeds United turned defence into attack so quickly.

Goodman said (1.03pm): “I mean it’s ridiculous isn’t it how one second they’re defending their own corner, the next second they’re on the counter. Hearts in mouths job for Plymouth, last-ditch defending. It’s an important challenge by Mikel Miller.

“Here it is, Kamara and Summerville, just the two of them against the rest look, little give and goes, and that challenge there, massive.”

Commentator Gary Weaver agreed: “Leeds a team who can hurt any team on the counter attack.”

The Whites have been in immense form since the start of 2024, and Daniel Farke has so many players in top form currently.

It is little surprise that Summerville was involved in the quick combinations as the Dutchman has barely put a foot wrong in weeks as one of the stars of the Championship, while Kamara moved into the starting line-up as Archie Gray was moved to right-back and has never looked back.

With squad options stepping into an established starting XI in recent weeks and actually improving Leeds United the manager has an embarrassment of riches.

Ilia Gruev has taken advantage of Ethan Ampadu dropping into defence to cover for Pascal Struijk and been outstanding, while Patrick Bamford responded to a run of starts since the New Year with five goals.

It was Willy Gnonto who put the Whites ahead at Home Park, with his fifth goal in February as he has stepped into Dan James’ spot and hit form.

And yet, despite a hugely impressive campaign it is a measure of the record-breaking nature of this Championship season that Leeds came into the game 12 points behind Leicester City in first, and with Southampton having moved above them with victory at West Brom the night before.

The team have stunned Goodman and others for some time but there is still no guarantee it will even be good enough for automatic promotion.

The Whites were decidedly less impressive after they came out for the second half, with the home side making things difficult while the score stood at 1-0 but Georginio Rutter finally added a second.
