Leeds United player ratings v Burnley: Aaronson, Piroe shambolic, Ampadu shines

Leeds United and Burnley shared the spoils as they played out a 0-0 draw on Monday.

A game that had a lot riding on it, offered no real entertainment, with both sides struggling to get out of second gear.

At full time, a draw was pretty much a fair result as neither side’s performance merited the three points at Turf Moor on 27 January.

Here are our player ratings from the game:

Illan Meslier – 6

The highlight of the game was a save he made after the player was in an offside position but it was still a relatively comfortable contest in goal for him.

Jayden Bogle – 7

Decent game at the back for the right-back and arguably did not deserve to get booked when he did.

Joe Rodon – 7

Appeared to go down too easily and would’ve been punished had the referee been better but apart from that, was solid at the back.

Ethan Ampadu – 8

Quality in defence for Leeds as he made a number of vital interventions from start to end.

Sam Byram – 5

Offered no attacking threat from left-back and was comfortable only sitting back and defending.

Ao Tanaka – 6

Tidy performance in the middle of the park but did struggle on a few occasions without possession.

Ilia Gruev – 4

Slowed the attack down on numerous occasions and did little to justify his place in the eleven over Joe Rothwell.

Dan James – 4

Was way off the pace on Monday evening and then picked up a yellow card which pretty much summed up his underwhelming display. He did manage a respectable shot on target close to the end.

Brenden Aaronson – 3

Horrendous decision making in the final third as he offered little to no creativity around the opposition penalty area.

Manor Solomon – 6

Tried his best but did not offer the sort of threat fans have been used to seeing from him in recent weeks.

Joel Piroe – 3

Another poor performance from the striker as he struggled to get involved and was a passenger for most of the game.

Substitutes

Largie Ramazani – 5

Offered some attacking threat after coming on but failed to really test James Trafford in goal with his effort late on.

Mateo Joseph – 4

Much like Piroe, he was barely there to make things happen or run in behind defenders.

Josuha Guilavogui – N/A
