Leeds United: Phil Hay spots Connor Roberts yelling at teammate v Blackburn
Leeds United defender Connor Roberts was yelling at Joel Piroe in the 1-0 defeat against Blackburn at Elland Road on 13 April.
The Athletic journalist Phil Hay spotted this in the first half when Piroe was not showing enough urgency during a throw in to take it and start the attack quickly.
The Whites failed to score a single goal in the first or second period of the game and their automatic promotion hopes took a massive hit.
Via Twitter, Hay wrote: “Roberts yelling at Piroe to show some urgency from a throw and get onto the wing to take it. Very steady so far but needs a bit of that. 0-0 on 25 mins.”
A shocking display from Leeds United at Elland Road
The 1-0 defeat against Blackburn was a shocking result for Leeds, considering their impressive home form throughout the season.
The Whites have been formidable at home and a loss at this crucial stage of the season significantly dented their hopes for automatic promotion.
This unexpected loss not only highlighted their vulnerability but also exposed some underlying issues within the team, such as a lack of urgency and leadership.
However, one silver lining from the game was the leadership shown by Roberts, who joined the team in January.
Despite the disappointing result, Roberts’ display of leadership and determination to push his teammates to perform better was a positive sign for the team’s future.
His vocal presence on the pitch, particularly when urging Piroe to show more urgency, demonstrated his commitment to the team’s success and his willingness to take on a leadership role, even though he has been with the club for a relatively short period.
Daniel Farke has to reflect on some of the decisions and also hold certain players to account as this was a shameful display.
