Leeds United: Les Dennis complains about Jonathan Pearce in BBC coverage of 4-1 win v Plymouth
The BBC coverage of the FA Cup clash between Leeds United and Plymouth on Tuesday (6 February) drew criticism from Les Dennis.
Dennis complained after commentator Jonathan Pearce said Joel Piroe hit the “woodwork” when his first-half shot hit the crossbar.
The Whites attacker almost broke the deadlock with his effort from just outside the box during the match at Home Park.
Complaining about the terminology from Pearce, Dennis wrote on X: “Why do football commentators still say ‘hit the woodwork?’ Let me know if it’s the post or the crossbar. Moan over.”
Leeds United ace Piroe in the thick of it
Piroe was very much in the thick of the action against Plymouth in every sense, both with his performance and indeed because his first-half strike drew an immediate reaction from Dennis.
The Whites attacker came so close to putting his side ahead in the fourth round replay, which was being played after the two clubs drew 1-1 at Elland Road in their original tie last month.
Willy Gnonto did then open the scoring just after the hour mark, only for Brendan Galloway to level for the hosts 12 minutes later.
The 1-1 stalemate after 90 minutes took the replay into extra-time, with the Whites running out 4-1 winners after goals from Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter, and an own goal from Ryan Hardie.
The hard-fought win from Daniel Farke and his players has now set up a mouth-watering fifth round meeting with either Chelsea or Aston Villa.

The two Premier League clubs will go head to head at Villa Park on Wednesday (6 February) after their goalless draw at Stamford Bridge last month.
In other Leeds United news, OIi McBurnie reacted as the Whites agreed terms for a last-ditch signing, with Pavel Nedved named.
