Leeds United: Leigh Bromby stunned by ‘really poor’ 1-0 defeat v Blackburn at Elland Road

Leigh Bromby was stunned as Leeds United lost 1-0 to Blackburn Rovers at Elland Road as he fumed at the “really poor” defending in the buildup to the winning goal.

Bromby detailed that Daniel Farke and his players looked “shell-shocked” after the goal after switching off in the build-up amid criticism for their performance.

There was also praise for goalscorer Sammie Szmodics, the top scorer in the division this season, as he insisted Leeds cannot give the clinical forward those types of chances.

Speaking live on BBC Radio Leeds [13 April, 14:12], Bromby shared: “Shell-shocked. The players, the manager. Leeds just look like they switch off. It was too easy to turn and Sammie Szmodics has not missed many of those chances all season.

“Really poor defending from Leeds. They’ve got everything to do now.”

Leeds United slammed after 1-0 loss v Blackburn

With this coming the day after Leicester also fell to a shock defeat against Plymouth, Leeds have fumbled yet another opportunity to stake their claim to the Championship title.

It seems almost as if nobody wants to win the Championship or achieve Premier League promotion, with Leeds and Leicester continuously slipping when presented with the opportunity to stamp their authority on the division.

A first home defeat all season for Leeds, as well as a second consecutive game where they have failed to find the net, will not provide much inspiration heading into the final few games of the season with promotion very much the target.

Promotion will be crucial both on and off the pitch as 49ers Enterprises have been warned of a new challenge by finance expert Kieran Maguire – and Farke’s team must ensure they step up their performances.
