Leeds United injury news in Wilfried Gnonto update at Elland Road

Wilfried Gnonto is struggling to make the Leeds United squad for the clash against Norwich City at Elland Road on 24 January, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper shared via their print edition [24 January, page 54] that Gnonto is still struggling with a hip injury which ruled him out of the game against Preston on 21 January.

Having been on the fringes of the first team lately, the short turnaround in fixtures may have provided the Italian with an opportunity in the first team, but he is now set to miss out.

A frustrating turn of events

Gnonto has largely been on the bench in recent weeks, with Crysencio Summerville and Daniel James the preferred wide options under Daniel Farke, but the nature of the Championship with its packed fixture schedule means his chances will come.

Sitting on the bench for a large part of the season will, of course, be frustrating for the winger, but when he returns from his injury he must make sure he takes any chances he is given to play first-team football at Elland Road.

It has been reported that Gnonto looks set to sign a new deal to keep him at Elland Road despite plenty of interest and rumours surrounding his status, which will be received as great news for the fans and the club.

Rumours had linked him with possible moves to the Premier League or Serie A, but his commitment to the cause at Elland Road has been made clear in a shock U-turn from the summer when it looked like he would force his way out of Yorkshire.
