Leeds United injury boost as Junior Firpo returns to training ahead of clash v Manchester United

Junior Firpo has returned to training after the Leeds United left-back missed the last three Premier League games, according to Joe Donnohue.

Writing via his personal Twitter account on Thursday night [16 February], the LeedsLive journalist reported that ahead of playing Manchester United at Elland Road on Sunday, 25-year-old has shown signs he could be in contention to play.

This could serve as a massive boost for Leeds, who may well be without Stuart Dallas against Man United after he went off injured in the loss at Everton last week.

Donnohue’s tweet came as Leeds’ official Twitter account shared an image of Firpo going through is paces at Thorp Arch.

Major boost

Firpo hasn’t met expectations since he joined us from Barcelona in the summer, let’s be honest. But it’s definitely great to see him back in training and looking as though he’s ready to play against Man United on Sunday.

Last week, Marcelo Bielsa confirmed to the media that Firpo wasn’t ready to play against Everton on Saturday but would be available this weekend.

And the image of him in training at Thorp Arch on Wednesday backs that up so we expect to hear further good news from the Leeds boss in his pre-match press conference on Friday.

Leeds United

We’re all sweating over Dallas’ injury, let’s be honest. And the lack of news from the club over the last week suggests to us that what we’re going to learn won’t be good.

Dallas has been vital for Leeds, playing every Premier League match since we won promotion from the Championship and to be without him will be a huge blow.

At least that blow is slightly softened by Firpo returning so the left-back area is fine. However, we do need Dallas back in the middle of the park as that’s where he’s best and where we’re not doing very well as of late.

In other Leeds United news, a pundit has shared what he’s heard about Bielsa’s contract at Elland Road.
