Leeds handed major boost over Kalvin Phillips for clash v West Ham

Leeds United fans got a major boost ahead of tonight’s game against West Ham as Kalvin Phillips was spotted travelling with the first-team squad.

The image of Phillips travelling was posted on the All Leeds TV Twitter account on Sunday evening. Rodrigo – who made his return with the Under-23s on Friday – has also travelled.

Both will now have a chance of starting in the game against West Ham at the London Stadium.

The injury problems Leeds have suffered with have been easing over the past few weeks with Diego Llorente back from injury, too, and playing well at the back.

Massive boost for Leeds

This was a most welcome sight.

When Phillips didn’t line up for the Under-23s on Friday we thought it would mean he wasn’t fit for tonight.

This doesn’t mean that he’s going to start but we do think that if Phillips is fit he will go straight back into the side.

Bielsa might have thought that it wasn’t worth risking Phillips in the Under-23s, instead wrapping him in cotton wool for tonight.

And Phillips has only missed four games compared to Rodrigo’s six.

The game tonight won’t be easy. West Ham are having a great season and will be confident of getting the three points they need to push their Champions League aspirations on.

Despite being in 11th place, Leeds fans want a win tonight for two reasons – to dispel any lingering nerves about getting dragged towards the bottom and to break the London curse, which has been going on since December 2017.
