‘Absolute shocker’, ‘Stinker’ – Many Leeds fans savage one player after loss v Sheff Weds
All the talk around Leeds is the identity of the striker Marcelo Bielsa is going to bring in to replace Eddie Nketiah.
Marcelo Bielsa said they wanted to bring in the new hitman as soon as possible, and it can’t come soon enough for a lot of Leeds fans after a 2-0 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday.
Before the late goals from the visitors it was a familiar tale for Leeds fans. They had to endure another groundhog day at Elland Road, with Leeds dominating Sheffield Wednesday in the first 45 minutes and not converting any of the many chances they created.
Patrick Bamford was the chief suspect, although Jack Harrison was also guilty of putting a very good chance just wide.
Bamford started the second half in the same way, missing a big chance from seven yards out, scooping the ball over the bar straight after the restart.
The big problem is that there’s no-one on the bench to replace him now that Nketiah has gone.
Bielsa had Pablo Hernandez, Gjanni Alioski and Jamie Shackleton on the bench – not players you’d look to for a goal-scoring impact off the bench.
He had no recognised striker and obviously doesn’t fancy Under-23 striker Ryan Edmondson. This game seemed tailor-made for the youngster. Bielsa preferred not to have another option.
We know Bamford adds a lot more than just goals but we need goals as well. Brentford won today and the gap to third is now six points. Things need to change – and fast.
