'Bleeds Leeds' – These fans hail unsung hero who was 'absolutely unbelievable' v Hull

Gaetano Berardi has filled in for Leeds United whenever he’s been needed this season, and some fans were thrilled by his gutsy display at Elland Road on Tuesday night.

Leeds – on the hunt for their seventh win in a row – couldn’t find a goal in the first half of the game against Hull, but Berardi helped keep them safe at the back in the absence of Liam Cooper again.

Alongside Ben White, he battled for every ball and put in a combative but efficient performance at the back, especially given the height difference between him and Tom Eaves.

One dive to block the ball from Eaves summed Berardi up last night. He gave everything.

Berra is out of contract in the summer and is the only player whose contract is up who hasn’t been given a new deal.

That hasn’t affected him on the pitch. He knows he’s not Marcelo Bielsa’s first choice and there are obviously concerns about him in the Premier League, but last night he was a big part of why Leeds kept their 12th clean sheet from 21 games.

That’s an incredible stat.

Plenty of Leeds fans paid tribute to him last night – and we’re in complete agreement. More performances like this and Berardi will deserve a new deal.

For our money, Pablo Hernandez was the weak link on Tuesday night, although there were a lot of Leeds players who were guilty of sloppy passing and losing possession, especially in the final third.

The three points is ultimately all that matters, though.
