Leeds United defender Junior Firpo must be axed after Southampton display
Daniel Farke needs to take off Junior Firpo at half-time in the Leeds United v Southampton clash at Elland Road on 4 May.
To secure automatic promotion, the Whites need to pick up the three points and hope Huddersfield perform a miracle against Ipswich Town.
As things stand, things are not going in Leeds’ favour, but the most they can do is ensure they get the job done.
Junior Firpo has been the worst player for Leeds United
Leeds conceded the first goal and it was courtesy of a defensive shambles which Firpo played a major role in.
A poor clearance saw the Saints regain possession again and rather than switching on, the left-back appeared to be ball watching.
He was partly responsible for four Southampton players being unmarked inside the penalty area and there was no communication.
In the 27th minute as well, Firpo failed to track back in time which saw Kyle Walker-Peters get the licence to pick his pass without any pressure.
It led to a half chance for the visitors and was deflected away or else it could’ve been a tough one to deal with for Illan Meslier.
Kyle Walker-Peters finally makes Junior Firpo pay as Leeds United in trouble
However, Walker-Peters finally made Firpo pay when he set up the second goal for the Saints, scored by Will Smallbone.
Rather than playing to the whistle, he stopped and asked the linesman to raise his flag which saw the Southampton right-back keep the ball in play and beat the 27-year-old to square the ball to Smallbone.

It’s been a truly awful half for the Leeds left-back and Farke needs to take him off.
