Leeds United: Dean Ashton baffled what he was told about Archie Gray during Huddersfield clash

Leeds United gem Archie Gray has left Dean Ashton in disbelief with a “perfectly” timed piece of defending during the Whites’ clash with Huddersfield Town.

Daniel Farke’s side dropped points in the Championship for the first time since December with a 1-1 draw at the John Smith’s Stadium on Saturday (2 March) as they came from behind thanks to a Patrick Bamford equaliser.

While the Whites were far from their best, they managed a few moments of magic both with and without the ball, including a remarkable tackle from Gray to deny Sorba Thomas and Ashton could barely believe it when Sam Matterface said the midfielder was only 17.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Saturday (2 March, 13:07) he said: “17? Do me a favour. That was just so, so good from Archie Gray. He knew that Kasumu was on the right-hand side and he timed that perfectly. He gave a little bit of space to Sorba Thomas and said go on try and take me on.

“The minute he stepped across Gray was there. That was so good.”

Will Leeds United be able to stop Archie Gray completing summer transfer exit?

Gray’s immense talent is becoming one of the worst-kept secrets in English football as the teenager keeps impressing in front of Sky Sports and ITV cameras, with pundits and supporters alike raving about his ability.

While Leeds United are lucky to have such an incredible talent in their ranks, the 17-year-old’s abilities won’t have gone unnoticed by teams in the Premier League and beyond as they eye young talent ahead of the summer transfer window.

Whether or not the Whites will be able to keep Gray beyond the summer remains to be seen, but Farke and all those around him at Elland Road will be doing all that they possibly can to tie down the teenager.

Hopefully, Leeds can secure their place in the Premier League next season by winning promotion this term as that would offer Gray a massive incentive to not push for a move away from Yorkshire.
