Daniel Farke dropped to his knees as Joel Piroe missed a golden chance to equalise for Leeds United in the 2-1 defeat to Coventry, according to Beren Cross.

The Leeds Live journalist detailed how Piroe was played through by Mateo Joseph before failing to take the chance as he rolled the ball straight at goalkeeper Bradley Collins.

Defeat at the Coventry Building Society Arena saw Leeds fail to make the most of the opportunity presented to them in the title race as Ipswich lost to Norwich earlier in the day.

Daniel Farke gutted as Joel Piroe misses key chance for Leeds United

Even a point against Coventry would have seen Leeds move above Ipswich, so when Piroe was presented with the opportunity to snatch that point despite a terrible performance overall, it was one he had to take to help Leeds' promotion fight.

Leicester have moved back up into first place, still with a game in hand on both Ipswich and Leeds as they now have one hand back on the title, but with the second automatic promotion place up for grabs, this has to be seen as a missed opportunity.

Chris Sutton predicted the blow to Ipswich against Norwich, although his suggestion that a defeat would be a "hammer blow" to their promotion chances ultimately fell short after Piroe's frustrating miss.

Farke will have to pick himself and his players back up after the disappointment and ensure they return to winning ways against Sunderland because a drop in form at this stage of the season is not something Leeds can afford with the threat of the playoffs looming.
