Leeds United: Crysencio Summerville mocked live on Sky Sports in wild win v Leicester City

Andy Hinchcliffe was in hysterics after his Sky Sports colleague made a joke about Crysencio Summerville blazing a Leeds United attack over the bar vs Leicester City.

The Sky Sports pundit reacted live on the broadcaster’s match commentary after the Dutchman fired a shot high into the stands late in the first half with the Whites trailing Wout Faes’ opener.

With the home side struggling with composure in front of goal during a chaotic first half commentator Daniel Mann made a wisecrack based on produce of the Netherlands, much to the delight of Hinchcliffe who burst into laughter.

Mann said (8.41pm), “Summerville reminded us that although his nation invented Total Football they also invented the clog,” as Hinchcliffe found it hilarious in the background.

Although it was relatively clever word play it likely won’t have gone down especially well with a Leeds United fanbase who are already unimpressed by Sky’s treatment of the team.

But on a night where Summerville’s blistering form in front of goal this term deserted him for much of the game it was perhaps not unwarranted, and given the wild finish at Elland Road the 22-year-old himself surely wouldn’t care.

The winger would be in with a shout of being the best player in the Championship this season, having scored 15 goals and assisted eight more in the second tier, leading to Premier League transfer interest.

But, in stark contrast to the professional performance that led to a 1-0 win at the King Power Stadium on 3 November, the Whites appeared over-excited and jittery in front of their own fans against the league leaders.

Willy Gnonto and Joel Piroe were also guilty of wasting much better chances before the break, while Summerville found himself in threatening positions more than once in the second half without looking like the danger man he so often has, while the surprisingly fit again Patrick Bamford also couldn’t reprise his goalscoring form in 2024.

Equally the Leicester attackers were guilty of leaving the door open, and it was left to Daniel Farke’s defensive men to step up, which they did in dramatic fashion as first Connor Roberts and then Archie Gray found the net with their first goals for the club for a stunning late turnaround, only for the latter to be ruled an own goal.

Dan James made the points safe in added time as the Whites won again in 2024 and cut the lead at the top down to six points.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites have brought in a player from Manchester United who has been involved in the national team set up.
