Leeds United confirm injury news ahead of clash v Chelsea

Leeds United have failed to reveal the extent of injuries suffered by Kalvin Phillips, Liam Cooper and Patrick Bamford in the draw against Brentford last week.

In a statement on their official website, Leeds have also confirmed that Rodrigo’s playing time is being reduced due to a heel injury.

On top of that, Robin Koch has recovered from his pelvic injury but has since suffered an illness and is expected to return to training at the weekend.

Leeds’ website says: “Rodrigo has been suffering from bilateral heel pain for some time. The player and medical staff have deemed it necessary to reduce his activity for the time being, in order to aid his long-term recovery.

“Robin Koch has overcome his pelvic injury, but has been ill for the last 10 days. He will resume normal training again this weekend.

“Patrick Bamford suffered a hamstring injury during last Sunday’s Premier League game against Brentford at Elland Road. The evolution of the injury is subject to daily assessment.

“Kalvin Phillips and Liam Cooper also both suffered hamstring injuries in Sunday’s game. Both players have undergone treatment for their injuries and the club’s medical staff will structure the next steps in their recovery.”

All five ruled out?

It doesn’t sound as though those five players will be playing against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Rodrigo was an unused substitute against Brentford so it remains to be seen whether he’ll be in the same situation against Chelsea or left out totally.

If he needs to rest and recover from his heel issue then it’s probably best if he misses out altogether.

Koch’s setback is unfortunate and not really avoidable while it’s frustrating that we’re still waiting to hear back on Phillips, Cooper and Bamford despite the media offering updates on Phillips and Cooper already.

It seems as though those two will be missing for a while, which is a massive shame and is a huge blow for Leeds’ season.

We’ll be lucky to come out of the other side of this festive period nowhere near the relegation zone.

In other Leeds United news, there could also be a massive chance for this never-before-seen Under-23s ace.
