Leeds United confirmed starting XI v Cardiff in FA Cup showdown

Leeds United have confirmed their starting XI for their FA Cup clash as they face Cardiff City away from home.

Confirmed on Twitter prior to kick-off in South Wales, Jesse Marsch has made as many as seven changes from the side that registered a 2-2 draw against West Ham in their previous game.

The likes of Illan Meslier, Luke Ayling, Robin Koch, Liam Cooper, Marc Roca, Tyler Adams, and Rodrigo have been dropped. Joel Robles, Junior Firpo, Rasmus Kristensen, Diego Llorente, Darko Gyabi, Sam Greenwood, and Joe Gelhardt have come into the side.

Cup run

The Whites are yet to register a win after the World Cup.

They are heading into this game on the back of a 2-2 draw against West Ham in the Premier League.

While the league holds paramount importance at the moment, a decent run in the FA Cup won’t do any harm to the team’s confidence.

Since returning to the Premier League, the Whites haven’t taken the cup games very seriously. But this is a winnable game.

Cardiff are struggling in the Championship at the moment, lying at 20th in the table, and the Whites should win this one.

Having said that, the beauty of the FA Cup lies in upsets, and Cardiff probably will look to cause an upset here. That’s the romance of this competition, and anything can happen.

This fixture is also a good distraction for Leeds as they can switch off from the intense Premier League battle for a week, and simply enjoy the cup tie, irrespective of the results.

In other Leeds United news, the club is in advanced talks over another major signing, according to Fabrizio Romano.
