Leeds United ace Joel Piroe lauded by Sky Sports pundit despite Southampton loss
Lee Hendrie has raved over Leeds United attacker Joel Piroe despite the loss against Southampton at Wembley.
The Saints secured a 1-0 victory and promotion back to the top flight courtesy of an Adam Armstrong goal in the first half.
Piroe, who failed to score, was still lauded for his display and the chemistry he’s shown with Georginio Rutter all season.
Speaking on the EFL World Feed, Hendrie, a Sky Sports pundit, said (26 May, 15:07): “It’s fantastic how Piroe has worked this season. His understanding with Rutter has been magnificent.”
Joel Piroe and Georginio Rutter flop for Leeds United v Southampton
Despite Piroe and Rutter’s impressive chemistry throughout the season, they struggled to make an impact during the Championship playoff final against Southampton.
Piroe was unable to find the back of the net, and both he and Rutter found it difficult to break down Southampton’s defence.
This struggle ultimately contributed to Leeds’ 1-0 defeat, denying them promotion back to the Premier League.
The loss was a disappointing end to a season that had seen Piroe and Rutter form a formidable partnership, highlighting the unpredictable nature of football and the high stakes of playoff matches.
Daniel Farke also needs to take a look in the mirror as he equally shares the blame of failing to get the job done.

Leeds had promotion in their hands and they failed to make it count in the regular season or the play-offs.
