Chris Iwelumo described a defensive moment involving Leeds United man Joe Rothwell as "shocking" against West Bromwich Albion.

Rothwell was left by teammates to mark two men from a defensive corner in the second half of Saturday's (17 August) goalless draw at The Hawthorns against Carlos Corberan's side.

Iwelumo, speaking live on talkSPORT [17 August], was quick to criticise the defensive organisation from Daniel Farke's men: "Look at Kyle Bartley and [Josh] Maja - there are two players free. I tell you what, it's shocking defending from Leeds. Shocking.

"Joe Rothwell is marking both players. I just cannot believe it. I don't understand why you're leaving Bartley unmarked from a corner."

Leeds United must remain organised

Leeds United will feel respite from their clean sheet in the West Midlands.

However, there are still some glaring defensive concerns - as explained by Iwelumo from set-plays, as well as in open play.

They have conceded six goals in their first two games in all competitions, showing defensive lapses against Portsmouth which were followed by a self-destructive second half display against Middlesbrough to bow out early from the Carabao Cup.

Farke and the Whites supporters will be praying Joe Rodon can get back to the form he showed on loan last season, proving a solid option at the back, but with an uncertain start to this campaign.

Beyond him, Max Wober and Pascal Struijk, there is little centre-half cover, with youngster James Debayo involved with the first-team squad after a promising pre-season.

Recruits are needed; it's a big fortnight ahead at Elland Road.
