Leeds set to extend 20-year record vs Sunderland if supercomputer prediction comes true
Leeds return to Premier League action when they host Sunderland at Elland Road on Tuesday.
The Whites currently sit 15th in the Premier League table, and securing three points against the Black Cats would give them a huge boost in the relegation battle.
Daniel Farke‘s side are six points clear of the drop zone, but West Ham’s impressive run of form in 2026 means they’ll likely need two or three more wins before they can comfortably achieve survival.
Leeds’ next match against Sunderland won’t be straightforward, but a supercomputer prediction will leave the home fans incredibly optimistic.

Leeds predicted as heavy favourites vs Sunderland
Sunderland have exceeded expectations this season, and despite a recent drop-off, they sit 12th in the table.
After drawing 1-1 away to Bournemouth last Saturday, they’ll be hopeful of winning their first game on the road since October.
However, according to Opta‘s supercomputer, Leeds are expected to secure all three points against the Black Cats.
- Leeds have been given a 48.9 per cent chance of claiming the victory
- Sunderland have a 25.4 per cent chance of securing an away win
- A draw has been given a 25.6 per cent probability of occurring
Sunderland are winless in their last three league visits to Elland Road (D2 L1) since a 3-0 win in September 2006.
Unfortunately for Regis Le Bris’ side, this 20-year streak looks set to continue, but Farke knows that this is one of their most winnable fixtures left this campaign.
Their most recent game there saw them lose 2-1 in the Championship in February 2025, with Pascal Struijk scoring a brace for the hosts.
This is the first Premier League meeting between Leeds and Sunderland at Elland Road since the visitors won 1-0 in August 2002, but the Whites have won their other four home games against the Black Cats in the competition.
Why should Leeds fans feel confident ahead of Sunderland clash?
Having won five of their first nine Premier League games this season, Sunderland have won just four of their last 19 matches.
Their incredible start to the campaign means they currently have 37 points, and relegation is already out of the question for the Black Cats, which is ultimately a brilliant achievement.
However, they don’t have much to play for at this stage of the season, apart from a small chance of Europe, and it’s clear that Leeds are in need of a result much more than Sunderland.
It feels as though they have been found out by other teams, with AFCON harming their form throughout January.
Therefore, the Whites will be up for the game, and they could benefit from Sunderland’s lack of firepower in the final third to win three huge points.
