Leeds United have been handed a potentially huge fitness boost after Kalvin Phillips said that he would “hopefully” be fit for the game against Arsenal.
Phillips was heard talking to Leif Davis as the two players streamed themselves playing Call of Duty on Twitch.
Phillips said, “I’m going to get an injection at the end of the international break.”
“So then you can play against Arsenal?” Davis asked.
“Yeah, hopefully anyway,” Phillips said.
You can watch the exchange in a short clip that was posted on Reddit.
Arsenal a different proposition under Arteta
We don’t need to tell Leeds fans how important Kalvin Phillips is to Bielsa’s side.
We’re not the same without him and not having Phillips can often involve a big rejigging of the starting XI.
Having an injection to play isn’t ideal but it shows how important Phillips is and the Arsenal game is much more important after two 4-1 losses.
Arsenal under Mikel Arteta are now much more solid and defensive-minded and we think we’re going to see a different game to the thrilling end-to-end clash in the FA Cup in January.
Arteta will know all about what Leeds can do after that match when Leeds completely dominated the first half before fizzling out in the second 45.
Having Phillips back would make a massive difference – just seeing him lining up at the start will give the rest of the players a boost of confidence, something that’s likely to be at a low after the last two games.
