Leeds fans react as Edmondson gets U19s call-up

Young Leeds striker Ryan Edmondson has been called up to the England Under-19 squad to face Greece and Germany next month – and fans are delighted with the news.

The 18-year-old moved across from the York youth set-up in 2017 and since then has impressed massively with the Under-23s.

He scored 19 goals for Carlos Corberan’s team last season and has made two cameo appearances for the senior team, once under Bielsa last season.

Some fans were calling for him to be given a first-team shot again with one saying, “So why isn’t he in the first team when we obviously have trouble scoring?”

The answer to that is Eddie Nketiah, with the Arsenal loanee not having made a start in the Championship yet despite sparkling when he has played.

Patrick Bamford is currently Marcelo Bielsa’s number one striker but he blanked against Swansea in the 1-0 defeat at the weekend and that could see him drop to the bench for the Barnsley game.

However, it looks like it will still take an injury for Edmondson to get a first-team place this season.

Edmondson hasn’t won a cap for England’s Under-19 side but may well get his chance next month.
