Leeds cannot sanction Sebastiaan Bornauw exit after ‘magnificent’ developments vs Everton
Sebastiaan Bornauw has been heavily linked with a Leeds United exit this month.
Leeds ace Bornauw is wanted by several German clubs as a result of less gametime than he expected, including former team Koln.
The Belgian is understood to want to move on from Elland Road to play more often, after featuring just seven times in the Premier League.
However, Daniel Farke surely cannot let the exit-linked star depart after what happened in the 1-1 draw with Everton on Monday evening.

Bornauw shows why Leeds need him vs Everton
Bornauw put in a solid display as Leeds took a point from the Hill Dickinson Stadium on 26 January, and one moment in particular proved why the Whites still need him.
In the 59th minute of the clash, the Toffees broke with multiple men getting into promising positions, however, the 26-year-old spotted the danger as Iliman Ndiaye tried to cut in, and blocked his effort.
Sky Sports commentator Andy Hinchcliffe was blown away, saying: “It’s magnificent reading of the game and defensive anticipation from Bornauw. He realises the real danger is Ndiaye cutting in on his left and gets an important block in.”
Why Leeds simply cannot let Bornauw leave
Bornauw‘s intution was vital in that moment, as Ndiaye probably would have scored had he not intervened, and they could have then gone on to win the game with Thierno Barry’s strike.
The Whites do not have the depth, especially in defence, to allow the former Wolfsburg man to exit LS11 in the winter transfer window.
Unfortunately, he could not stop Barry from getting to the ball first for the equalising goal, but he showed why the Peacocks need to keep hold of him with his previous work in the contest.
| Stat | Bornauw |
| Clearances | 9 |
| Blocks | 2 |
| Interceptions | 1 |
| Recoveries | 4 |
| Ground duels won | 3/4 (75%) |
| Aerial duels won | 4/11 (36%) |
Bornauw can hold his head up high after a stellar showing, and he may have just convinced his manager that his future remains in Yorkshire.
If the Whites were to let him go, they would need to bring a replacement in, as the likes of Jaka Bijol, Pascal Struijk and Joe Rodon have proved not to be immune to injuries, and Bornauw is a quality back-up, if one of them goes down.
Farke’s side are just six points above the relegation zone, and keeping the four-cap international around could prove to be the difference between survival and going back down to the Championship.
There is not much time left to make signings, so it may be easier to keep what they have.
