Leeds bench spotted going mad after late controversy in Tottenham loss
Leeds succumbed to a 2-1 loss to Tottenham on Saturday, but it was not without incident.
Daniel Farke‘s side were looking to continue their impressive record at Elland Road, but it was not be, as Thomas Frank’s team took all three points.
Noah Okafor had gotten Leeds back into the clash with a controversial goal, but Mohamed Kudus’ 57th-minute strike proved too much for the Whites.
However, that was not the only moment which caused problems in the tight encounter on 4 October.
Sam Matterface spots what Leeds bench did in Tottenham loss
Leeds had their chances but Dominic Calvert-Lewin struggled again in front of goal, but the Peacocks may have had a lifeline in the dying embers.
Pascal Struijk went down in the box in the 95th minute, with Richarlison apparently standing on his foot, but a penalty was not awarded, either by the referee or VAR.
Sam Matterface spotted the Whites’ bench after the incident, and they were going mad, after the controversial moment.
Speaking on talkSPORT on 4 October (14:26 pm), he said: “All of the bench on this near side that represent Leeds United have gone out and charged towards the assistant on this near touchline.”
While it would have been a soft penalty, the Spurs man did make contact with the Whites defender.
Leeds need to start taking their chances
If the Whites are to stay in the top-flight, they need to start taking their chances when they get them, as it will be crucial to win matches.
The performance against Spurs was encouraging, but they cannot rely on a very harsh potential penalty shout to pull a draw back so late in the game.
- Leeds had 16 shots to Tottenham’s nine attempts
- Farke’s side had 57 per cent of the possession, with the visitors having just 43 per cent.
- The Whites completed 474 passes, compared to Spurs’ 369
Farke needs his charges to start putting the ball in the back of the net more consistently; otherwise they could be in serious danger come May.
They have started well, but now is the time to kick on, and solidify their position, so they are not worrying when the season comes to a conclusion.
On another day, maybe a penalty is given, but Farke and Co. cannot get hung up on refereeing decisions, if they are not doing enough to win matches.
