Klich the creator

Fans in the know appreciate how important Mateusz Klich is to the Bielsa side.

The 29-year-old delivers the key passes that can (or should) lead to goals.

After three Championship games, the LUFCDATA Twitter account reported that he’d created 11 chances, the second-most in the Championship. In that period Klich registered one assist.

Only Reading’s John Swift had created more and he’d recorded two assists.

Swift has added another two since, while Mateusz Klich has delivered no attacking returns.

However, that’s not the full story.

According to stats site WyScout Klich has delivered 0.18 assists per 90 minutes this season. But his xA (expected assists) is much higher, at 0.38.

That’s double what he’s got and means that at the minimum Klich should have another assist to his name. And that he should deliver more than one every three games.

Klich is creating chances, with almost six passes to the final third per 90 minutes with a 78.6% accuracy.

However, Leeds aren’t taking them and it’s an age-old problem.

Swift’s xA is 0.44, not much higher than Klich’s but he’s sitting on four assists.

Perhaps it’s time for Eddie Nketiah to make his bow.
