Junior Firpo spotted fuming at ‘horrible’ incident in Leeds United v Sunderland
Junior Firpo stormed off the pitch fuming as he walked down the tunnel after the Leeds United v Sunderland game on 4 October.
The Whites looked to be on the cusp of a famous win at the Stadium of Light but an error from Illan Meslier in stoppage time saw the game ending 2-2.
Firpo, who scored the second goal for Leeds and off whom the ball deflected into the back of the net, cut an animated figure post the full-time whistle.
Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Graham Smyth wrote on X: “A seven-point week on 96 minutes and then, with one horrible, inexplicable lapse in concentration it’s a five-point week.
“Firpo is storming off the pitch fuming as others run to Meslier.”

Firpo’s reaction was one of frustration, mirroring the sentiments of Leeds fans who were on the brink of celebrating a significant win.
The left-back, having scored and been involved in the pivotal moments of the game, was visibly fuming as he stormed off the pitch.
This reaction, while understandable given the high stakes and emotional investment in the game, highlighted a moment where team unity was crucial.
Leeds fans, feeling the same sting of disappointment, likely empathised with Firpo’s frustration but also recognised the importance of supporting Meslier.
In football, especially in the tense environment of a crucial match, showing solidarity with teammates, especially after such a public mistake, is not just about sportsmanship but maintaining team morale and spirit.
If Firpo wanted to give Meslier a mouthful, it should’ve been done in the dressing room and he should not be running down the tunnel like a petulant child.
