Junior Firpo in ‘Shocking’ Elland Road moment during Leeds United defeat

Junior Firpo was slammed by Chris Iwelumo for something he did late on during Leeds United’s defeat to Millwall.

The Whites suffered an FA Cup exit at Elland Road on Saturday (8 February) as Femi Azeez’s double earned Millwall a 2-0 victory.

Leeds boss Daniel Farke made mass changes to his side and that told, with all focus now switching to Premier League promotion.

Junior Firpo blasted during Leeds loss against Millwall

Firpo was brought off the substitutes’ bench for Leeds against Millwall but failed to make much of an impact.

Indeed, Iwelumo was incensed that the full-back did not make more use of his fresh legs late on in the match.

Largie Ramazani got to the byline and put a dangerous cross into the six-yard box, but Mateo Joseph and Joel Piroe failed to get a touch at the front post.

In the view of Iwelumo, though, Firpo was the man who should have been converting at the back post.

“Look at Firpo, that’s where he should be [at the back post]. Shocking,” the former Scotland international said live on talkSPORT [8 February, 2:04pm]. “He has to be breaking his neck there.”

Leeds United out of FA Cup

Firpo seemed to just be stood still near the edge of the box, rather than “breaking his neck” as Iwelumo puts it to get on the end of the cross.

Had he done so, it would have been 2-1 with five added minutes to play and very much game on.

As it is, however, Farke‘s side are now out of the FA Cup and will have to focus solely on the Championship.

Given Leeds’ position in the table, supporters can take solace from this disappointing loss in the knowledge that the main aim for the season is still very much achievable.
