Junior Firpo and Wilfried Gnonto clash in Leeds United win v Coventry
Leeds United star Junior Firpo was left raging after Willy Gnonto overhit a through ball in the 3-0 win against Coventry City, Graham Smyth spotted.
While Leeds managed to come away from Elland Road with all three points on 28 September, it was clear that the full-back had some issues with his teammate.
Firpo and Gnonto were at the heart of everything during the win, but neither was best pleased with every moment as they cruised to victory.
Sharing via X on 28 September, Smyth shared the moment that left Firpo angered.
“Firpo screams in frustration as Gnonto overhits a through ball for Joseph. Leeds had played forward really nicely to threaten to unlock Coventry,” he wrote.
Willy Gnonto is on top form for Leeds United
Since extending his stay at Elland Road after the summer transfer window closed, Gnonto has seemed to be a man on a mission [Graham Smyth, 31 August].
The attacker is the sole remaining member of Leeds’ wingers currently fit from last term that included both Crysencio Summerville and, at times Georginio Rutter.
Many expected the Whites to struggle without the aforementioned duo within their ranks but in actual fact, it feels the opposite right now.
The Whites’ attack was the main area of their squad that was changed during the transfer window and in reality, it’s not a surprise to find out that the club are happy with the options they currently have [GiveMeSport, 28 September].
While Largie Ramazani and Manor Solomon might not be household names yet at Elland Road, the way that they’ve played since the start of the season has shown why they were targeted.
As long as Gnonto can stay fit this term, it’s hard to see how the Whites aren’t in contention for the Championship title.
In other Leeds news, a Whites ace was hailed as “terrific” after what he did against Coventry.
