Joel Piroe squad update shared ahead of Leeds United v Sheffield Wednesday

Joel Piroe is back in the Leeds United squad for the clash against Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday, according to Adam Pope.

The BBC journalist reported to X on 19 January that the Dutchman had arrived at Elland Road ahead of the clash against the Owls.

The 25-year-old was absent from the squad against Harrogate Town last week, but he now appears to be available to Daniel Farke for the return to Championship action.

Patrick Bamford and Pascal Struijk both appear to be on the injury list and absent from the home game against Danny Rohl’s side.

The former Swansea City forward’s importance in LS11 has grown throughout this campaign and he was missed in the FA Cup.

That isn’t to say that the Whites don’t have other options in that position, with Mateo Joseph coming in from the start against Harrogate.

Regardless, it is a huge boost to have Piroe back in the squad against Sheffield Wednesday, who represent a stern test at Elland Road.

The clash hands the home side the opportunity to return to the top of the Championship after Sheffield United secured a 2-0 win against Norwich City on Saturday (18 January).

With that being said, being able to potentially welcome the ex-PSV attacker back into the starting XI should get the Leeds faithful up for this Yorkshire derby clash.

His influence at the top end of the pitch combined, with the impact on the break from Joseph, could prove to be too much for the Owls’ back line.

In other Leeds United news, Farke will be on red alert to sign a Premier League ace after a manager’s transfer admission.
