Joe Rothwell spotted screaming at himself after what Leeds United ace did v Millwall
Beren Cross spotted Joe Rothwell screaming at himself after mishitting a freekick as Leeds United lost 1-0 to Millwall on Wednesday.
The 29-year-old, on loan from Bournemouth this season, has been deputising alongside Ao Tanaka in the absences of Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev, taking on the responsibility of set-pieces.
Rothwell could only watch on as Daniel Farke’s side were condemned to their first defeat in nine matches, and the player was clearly frustrated with himself at The Den on 6 November.
Writing for LeedsLive on Thursday (7 November), Cross said: “In the first half, Joe Rothwell was stood over a well-placed free-kick down the left channel. Rather than swing the ball in onto the far post with his right boot, Rothwell went for a shot at the near side, but completely fluffed it.
“It was effectively a pass to the goalkeeper and the midfielder could be seen screaming at himself for the poor connection as he trotted away.”
Joe Rothwell disappoints in Leeds United defeat v Millwall
Rothwell was far from his best at The Den, but that was a consistent theme throughout the Leeds squad on Thursday night as they faced defeat against a well-drilled Lions side.
Farke’s men have missed out on the chance to move within just one point of league leaders Sunderland, who drew 0-0 with Preston North End away from home.
Of course, with just four points separating the Whites from the top of the Championship table, the defeat does not leave them in the worst position in the world, but it will feel rather deflating.

Leeds have looked brilliant since the 1-0 loss to Burnley in mid-September, going on an eight-game unbeaten streak before finally slipping up to Millwall, but there is a chance to right their wrongs.
Before heading into the international break, Farke will be eager for his side to get back to winning ways against QPR on Saturday 9 November, especially in front of a packed-out Elland Road.
A win against QPR would certainly put the pressure back on the Black Cats at the top of the Championship table.
In other Leeds United news, sources have revealed that one attacker wants to leave on loan in January.
