Joe Rodon incident shocks BBC pundit in Sunderland vs Leeds: ‘That’s horrible’

Leeds United have suffered a major blow in the form of Joe Rodon in their clash with Sunderland.

Daniel Farke had Leeds in superb form heading into the clash with the Black Cats, who were without seven first-team players.

However, it is Sunderland who have the lead at the break, courtesy of Simon Adingra, assisted by Granit Xhaka.

It leaves the Whites with a huge task to come from behind, and they will have to do so without Rodon after the Wales international suffered what looked like a nasty injury, not once, but twice.

Adingra the difference-maker for Sunderland, for more than one reason

Rodon has arguably been Leeds’s player of the season so far, not only because of his constant availability, but also his performances on the pitch.

However, the Welshman went down with an injury after a challenge from Brian Brobbey, before a near-identical challenge from Adingra just minutes prior to the opening goal.

Rodon tried to play on initially, but went down straight after the goal went in, with Farke forced into an early change.

Replays showed the severity of the injury, and Pat Nevin metaphorically winced at the challenge.

Via BBC Radio 5 Live, he said: “Rodon has bent the ankle the same way again. That’s horrible.

“He’s just run it off and was holding it together, and the last thing you want is for it to happen the same way again.

Ao Tanaka was the man brought on in Rodon’s place, with Leeds now looking to get back into the game using a very different system to the one that has brought them success in recent weeks.

Rodon’s incredible two-year feat looks to come to an end

Not only has Rodon impressed in the Premier League this season, but he has also started every game for the Whites.

In fact, Rodon has not missed a Leeds clash since October 2023, with that record now surely in jeopardy.

If Rodon is to be out for any length of time, it remains to be seen how Farke will deal with his absence.

Sebastian Bornauw, who has been linked with an exit from Leeds, is likely next in line, but having barely played this season, it would be a risk.
